Dioctyl Phthalate (DOP) Plasticiser Supplier in Malaysia

  • Also known as
  • DOP
  • DEHP
  • Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate
  • Di-Octyl Phthalate

ChemTrade supplies dioctyl phthalate to PVC compounders across Malaysia. Ordered as DOP, it is the general purpose primary plasticiser behind flexible cable, flooring, hose, artificial leather and film. Korean, Taiwanese, Chinese and Indian origin are available in 200 kg drums, with 25 kg drums and 18 litre tins for smaller lines.

One point worth stating plainly, because the trade uses these names loosely. What ships as DOP in this region is DEHP, bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, CAS 117-81-7. The strictly named n-octyl isomer is a different substance under CAS 117-84-0, so if your specification calls for that one you need something else and should say so.

Phthalate use is restricted or prohibited in some end applications, including toys, food contact and certain consumer and medical products, and the rule depends on the finished article and the market it sells into. We supply this as an industrial plasticiser and cannot certify your product, so confirm the requirement that applies to you.

Where phthalates are ruled out, DOTP is the usual substitute and is a different chemical rather than a phthalate at all. DINP is the higher phthalate for more permanence, though still a phthalate. Both are quoted as their own products, so tell us the application and which market it ships to.

Dioctyl Phthalate grades and forms

We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.

GradeFormAssayTypical usePacking
DOP (DEHP), Asian originclear oily liquidThe standard primary plasticiser for flexible PVC. Korean, Taiwanese, Chinese and Indian material are all available, and where the specification is standard the delivered cost decides which one we quote.200 kg drum
DOP (DEHP), small packclear oily liquidThe same material in a pack a compounder can charge by hand or hold as a trial quantity, rather than breaking into a full drum. Suits low volume lines, laboratory formulation work and filter testing.25 kg drum or 18 litre tin
DOTP (dioctyl terephthalate)clear oily liquidA different chemical, not a phthalate, and the usual substitute where an end use or an export customer rules phthalates out. It plasticises flexible PVC at close to the same loading and is quoted as its own product, not as DOP.200 kg drum, IBC or bulk
DINP (diisononyl phthalate)clear oily liquidA higher phthalate, more permanent and less volatile than DOP, so it is specified where migration and heat ageing matter more than cost. Also quoted separately. Note it is still a phthalate, so it does not answer a phthalate-free requirement.200 kg drum or IBC

How to buy dioctyl phthalate from ChemTrade

Ordering

Send the quantity, pack size and delivery location and we will quote within two business days. If your end customer restricts phthalates, say so with the enquiry and we will quote DOTP or DINP against the same application instead of sending you DOP you cannot use.

Delivery

Across Peninsular Malaysia, with East Malaysia by sea freight. Drums travel as general cargo and need a forklift or a tail lift at your end, so tell us what you have. We can arrange transport or release to your own forwarder, and delivery timing is confirmed with your quote once stock and haulage are checked.

Pricing

DOP tracks its feedstocks, so the price moves and we quote a current figure with a stated validity period rather than publish one that goes out of date. Send the quantity and pack size and we will come back with a price.

Safety and handling

Classification
health-hazard, suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child

Store in closed drums in a cool, well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight, away from heat, ignition sources and oxidising agents. It is a combustible liquid with a high flash point rather than a flammable one, so it will burn if a fire reaches it. Avoid skin contact and breathing the mist or vapour when charging hot, and handle it with gloves, goggles and ventilation at the mixer.

Common questions about dioctyl phthalate

Is DOP the same thing as DEHP?

In commercial practice yes, and that is what we supply: DOP as sold in this region is DEHP, bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, CAS 117-81-7. Strictly the name dioctyl phthalate could also mean the straight chain n-octyl isomer, CAS 117-84-0, which is a different material and is not what general purpose plasticiser drums contain. If your specification names the n-octyl isomer or quotes 117-84-0, tell us, because you need something else.

Can I use DOP in toys, food contact or medical products?

Treat those as restricted and check before you formulate. Phthalate use in toys, in food contact materials and in some medical and consumer applications is limited or prohibited in a number of markets, and the rule depends on the end use and on where the finished article is sold rather than on the drum. We supply DOP as an industrial plasticiser and cannot confirm compliance for your product, so verify the requirement in your own market and in your customer's, and ask us for DOTP if the answer is no.

What can replace DOP if my customer will not accept phthalates?

DOTP, dioctyl terephthalate, is the usual answer. It is not a phthalate at all despite the similar name, it performs closely enough in flexible PVC to swap in at a comparable loading, and we quote it as its own product in drums, IBCs and bulk. DINP is more permanent than DOP but is still a phthalate, so it does not satisfy a phthalate-free specification. Tell us what the finished article is and which market it ships to.

What purity and specification do you supply?

Standard commercial primary plasticiser grade. We do not publish a purity, acid value or colour figure here because those come from the producer's certificate for the lot you actually receive, and a number on a web page is not the number in your drum. Send us your specification, including colour and volatile loss limits if you have them, and we will quote the certificate with the offer.

What pack sizes and origins are available?

200 kg drums are the standard, with 25 kg drums and 18 litre tins for smaller lines and trial quantities. Korean, Taiwanese, Chinese and Indian origin are all available. If your paperwork or your customer restricts country of origin, say so with the enquiry and we will quote only what qualifies.

How much DOP does flexible PVC need?

That is set by the hardness you are targeting and by the rest of the formulation, so it is your compound engineer's number rather than ours. What we can tell you is how a substitute compares once you have it: if you are moving off DOP, send your current loading and target hardness and we will say how the DOTP or DINP figure differs.
