ChemTrade supplies hydrated lime powder to industrial buyers across Malaysia in 25 kg bags and in bulk for civil and water treatment work. It is the same material a spec sheet calls calcium hydroxide or slaked lime, and the cheapest way to move pH upward by the tonne.
The commercial split is by grade. Water treatment grade is specified on available Ca(OH)2 and fineness for potable water pH correction and softening, construction grade goes into mortar, render and subgrade stabilisation, industrial grade handles effluent neutralisation and flue gas treatment, and food grade covers pickling lime and nixtamalisation.
Hydrated lime is already slaked, so it does not heat when it meets water the way quicklime does. That is usually why a plant buys it: no slaking rig, no exotherm to manage. It is not a drop in replacement for quicklime, because the dose per tonne differs.

Store the bags dry, closed and off the floor. Hydrated lime picks up carbon dioxide from the air and slowly reverts to calcium carbonate, which costs you available Ca(OH)2 and therefore dosing strength. It is not the fire and heat hazard that quicklime is, because it is already slaked, but the dry powder causes serious eye damage and a wet skin contact burns on prolonged exposure. Use sealed goggles, gloves and a dust mask when charging or sweeping, and keep it away from acids and from aluminium in the presence of water.
Common questions about hydrated lime
Is hydrated lime the same as quicklime?
No, and they are not interchangeable. Quicklime is calcium oxide, and hydrated lime is what you get after quicklime has been slaked with water. Hydrated lime is ready to use and does not heat up when it meets water, which is why plants that cannot run a slaking rig buy it instead. Swapping one for the other without recalculating the dose gets the alkalinity wrong, so tell us which your process is set up for.
Which grade do I need for potable water treatment?
Water treatment grade, specified on available Ca(OH)2 and fineness rather than on appearance. High available hydroxide gives you the pH lift per tonne, and consistent fineness is what keeps a slaking and dosing line from blocking. Send us the plant's specification and we will source against it.
What fineness and available Ca(OH)2 do you supply?
Both are confirmed on the batch certificate of analysis rather than quoted as a single number here, because they vary by grade and by source and we would rather not publish a figure you then have to check. If your specification sets a minimum available Ca(OH)2 or a residue limit on a given mesh, send it with the enquiry and we will supply against it.
Can you supply food grade hydrated lime?
Yes. Ask for food grade at enquiry and it ships against a food specification with the corresponding documentation, for pickling, nixtamalisation and use as E526. Industrial grade is not a substitute in a food process even where the chemistry looks identical.
What packing does hydrated lime come in?
25 kg bags are the standard and what moves most. Larger civil and water treatment jobs are usually better served by jumbo bags or bulk, and we can arrange those, so tell us the tonnage and the site handling and we will quote the packing that lands cheapest.
Do you deliver hydrated lime outside the Klang Valley?
Yes. Give us the delivery address and quantity with the enquiry. Route, timing and freight are confirmed with the quotation because transport is a material part of the delivered price for a bulk commodity.
How long does hydrated lime keep in storage?
It keeps well if the bags stay closed and dry. Left open it absorbs carbon dioxide from the air and slowly turns back into calcium carbonate, which means the same weight gives you less pH correction. If you are dosing to a target, work from a recent certificate rather than one from a batch that has been sitting open.
