Liquid Mercury (Quicksilver) Supplier in Malaysia
- Also known as
- Quicksilver
- Silver Mercury
- Hg
- Hydrargyrum
ChemTrade supplies mercury to industrial and laboratory buyers across Malaysia. It is traded as liquid mercury, silver mercury or quicksilver, and by the symbol Hg. Enquiries are quoted against your intended use and the purity your process needs.
The choice here is purity rather than form. Industrial grade at 99.9% covers instrumentation and general plant duty, triple distilled at 99.99% is the usual commercial specification, and reagent grade runs to 99.999% and above for analytical work.
It ships as a dangerous good in sealed steel flasks, with bottles for laboratory quantities. Send the grade, the quantity and the delivery point and we will confirm what packing and transport apply.
Mercury is a restricted substance and its international trade is controlled under the Minamata Convention, which is why it is difficult to source. Supply is subject to your intended use being a permitted one and to you holding the licence or permit required for it. Tell us the application and the end user and we will confirm what documentation is needed.

Liquid Mercury grades and forms
We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.
| Grade | Form | Assay | Typical use | Packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Industrial grade mercury | liquid | ≥ 99.9% | Technical grade for instrumentation, switches and general plant duty where trace base metal content is not critical. | steel flask |
| Triple distilled mercury | liquid | ≥ 99.99% | The usual commercial specification. Redistilled to strip base metals and surface oxide, so it wets and meters consistently and leaves less residue in a sealed instrument. | steel flask |
| Reagent grade mercury | liquid | ≥ 99.999% | Analytical and calibration work: prepared standards, reference electrodes, porosimetry and pressure instrument calibration. | laboratory bottle |

Liquid Mercury applications
Safety and handling
- Classification
- toxic, fatal if inhaled, causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure, very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects
- UN number
- 2809
- Hazard class
- 8 (6.1)
Store sealed in a cool, well ventilated area, in the original steel flask and standing in a tray deep enough to hold the contents. The hazard is the vapour rather than the liquid, so keep containers closed and do not decant in a warm, unventilated space. Handle over a tray with nitrile gloves and eye protection, keep a mercury spill kit within reach, and never put a domestic vacuum cleaner near a spill.
Common questions about liquid mercury
Do I need a licence to buy mercury in Malaysia?
Assume yes. Mercury is a restricted substance, supply is subject to your intended use being a permitted one, and we ask for the end user before we quote. Tell us the application and we will confirm what licence or permit applies and what documentation to have ready before the first delivery.
What purity do you supply?
Industrial grade at 99.9% minimum, triple distilled at 99.99% which is the usual commercial specification, and reagent grade at 99.999% and above for analytical work. If your process has a limit on a specific trace metal, send us the specification and we will source against it rather than send you the nearest thing.
Is silver mercury the same as mercury?
Yes. Silver mercury and silver liquid mercury are trade descriptions for elemental mercury, and they refer to the metal's appearance rather than to any silver content. Quicksilver and Hg are the same material again.
How is mercury packed and shipped?
In sealed steel flasks for industrial quantities and in bottles for laboratory quantities. It travels as UN 2809, class 8 with a subsidiary toxic hazard, packing group III, so it needs a licensed dangerous goods carrier and correct documentation. We can arrange that or release to your forwarder.
Can you supply small quantities for laboratory use?
Yes. Laboratory quantities are supplied in bottles rather than flasks, at reagent purity, with the certificate of analysis and safety data sheet. Tell us the volume you need and we will confirm what is available.
How much does mercury cost?
It is priced by weight and the figure moves, so we quote on enquiry with a stated validity period instead of publishing a price that would soon be wrong. Send the grade and quantity and we will come back with a current number.
What documentation comes with a delivery?
A certificate of analysis for the batch and the safety data sheet, plus the dangerous goods paperwork the carrier needs. Country of origin is stated on request, and we will tell you what your own licence or permit obliges you to keep on file.
