Synthetic grades are manufactured to one controlled pore size. Zeolite 4A goes into detergent powder as the phosphate replacement builder and into general drying duty, while 13X reaches larger molecules including carbon dioxide and is checked for availability and packing with the quotation. Zeolite 4A is available in 25 kg bags, while the current 3 to 5 mm molecular sieve bead lines are packed in drums and come from China or the United States.
Natural clinoptilolite is a mined aluminosilicate ordered by mesh rather than by synthetic type. It is used in aquaculture for ammonia control, as a soil conditioner and slow release carrier, in feed, and as filter media. Safety and handling
Keep sealed and dry. Molecular sieve adsorbs moisture straight out of the air, so a drum left open loses capacity before it reaches the column, and wetting a spent charge releases heat. Powder grades raise a dust that irritates eyes and airways, so wear a dust mask and safety glasses when charging by hand.
Common questions about zeolite
What is the difference between natural zeolite and molecular sieve?
Natural zeolite is mined, mostly clinoptilolite, with a spread of pore sizes and a composition that varies with the deposit. Molecular sieve is manufactured, so the pore is one controlled size and the material runs the same batch to batch. If your process separates by molecule size or has to hit a low dew point, you need the synthetic. If you are exchanging ammonia out of pond water or conditioning soil, the mined mineral does that job for a fraction of the cost.
Which molecular sieve type do I need, 3A, 4A, 5A or 13X?
The number is the nominal pore size, and it decides what the sieve can take up. 3A dries alcohols without adsorbing the product itself, 4A is the general purpose water adsorbent and the detergent builder, 5A separates straight chain from branched paraffins, and 13X reaches the larger molecules including carbon dioxide. What mesh sizes of natural zeolite can you supply?
Aquaculture, filter media and soil conditioning use different particle size cuts. Send the mesh or particle size band your application calls for, and availability, packing and origin will be checked with the quotation.
Do you supply zeolite for aquaculture ponds?
Natural zeolite is used for ammonia control in shrimp and fish ponds. Send the required mesh, quantity and delivery point as a sourcing enquiry, and availability, packing and timing will be confirmed with the quotation.
Can molecular sieve be regenerated?
Yes, and that is most of the reason for using it. A spent charge is driven off with heat and a purge and goes back into service with most of its capacity, which is why a drum runs through many cycles rather than one. Capacity does fall away gradually, so plan on eventual replacement rather than indefinite reuse.
What packing is available?
Zeolite 4A is available in 25 kg bags, and the current molecular sieve bead lines are packed in drums. Packing for Zeolite 13X, natural zeolite or another specification is confirmed with the quotation.
