Chromium Nitrate Supplier in Malaysia
- Also known as
- Chromic Nitrate
- chromium(III) Nitrate
- Chromium Trinitrate
- Cr(NO3)3
Chromium nitrate supplier for metal finishing, catalyst, pigment and laboratory buyers in Malaysia. The salt is chromium(III) nitrate and is still widely listed under its older name, chromic nitrate, or as chromium trinitrate. Commercial supply is the nonahydrate, Cr(NO3)3·9H2O, in dark violet crystals.
Chromium here is trivalent, and the distinction belongs on the specification. The hexavalent chromium chemicals used in chrome plating and dichromate oxidation are separate materials with their own handling, and chromium sulphate and chromium chloride are different salts again. Each is ordered by name.
The crystals are freely soluble in water and deliquescent, so packs are kept sealed and made up to solution as required. Grades run from technical material for passivation and conversion coating baths, through catalyst grades with controlled chloride and sulphate, to analytical reagent quality. Ceramic colours, chrome mordant dyeing and leather chemistry take the same salt.
Send the grade, hydrate, assay basis, any impurity limits, quantity and delivery location with your enquiry. Pack format, documentation and delivery arrangements are confirmed in the quotation. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.

Chromium Nitrate grades and forms
We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.
| Grade | Form | Assay | Typical use | Packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Technical grade chromium nitrate nonahydrate | dark violet crystalline solid | — | Make-up of trivalent chromium solutions for metal finishing, passivation and conversion coating lines, and general process work that calls for a soluble chromium(III) salt. | Confirm the required pack format with the quotation. |
| Catalyst grade chromium(III) nitrate nonahydrate | violet crystalline solid | — | Chromia and mixed-oxide catalyst preparation, where the chromium is loaded onto a support from solution and the anion has to burn away without leaving chloride or sulphate behind. | Confirm the required pack format with the quotation. |
| Analytical reagent grade chromium(III) nitrate nonahydrate | violet crystals | — | Preparation of chromium standard solutions and reagent work written against a published analytical method, where a declared purity profile is part of the procedure. | Confirm the required pack format with the quotation. |

Chromium Nitrate applications
Safety and handling
Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated store, apart from combustible material and reducing agents, since a nitrate salt supports combustion. The crystals are deliquescent, so limit exposure to humid air and reseal partly used packs. Use the handling precautions in the safety information issued for the grade quoted. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.
Common questions about chromium nitrate
Is chromium nitrate a hexavalent chromium compound?
No. This is the chromium(III) nitrate salt, in which chromium is trivalent, and it sits in a different group from the hexavalent chromium chemicals used in chrome plating and dichromate oxidation. Keep the oxidation state on the specification so the correct material is quoted.
Is chromium nitrate the same as chromic nitrate?
Yes. Chromic nitrate is the older name for the same trivalent salt, and both names appear on current trade documents alongside chromium trinitrate. Either term can be used on an enquiry provided the hydrate and grade are stated.
Which hydrate of chromium nitrate is normally supplied?
Commercial material is normally the nonahydrate, written Cr(NO3)3·9H2O, rather than the anhydrous salt. Because the water of crystallisation changes the chromium content per kilogram, state the hydrate your calculation assumes when you send the requirement.
What is the difference between chromium nitrate and chromium sulphate?
Both supply trivalent chromium, but they are separate products with separate specifications. The anion changes how a made-up solution behaves and what remains after firing or calcination, and tanning and coating documents name one or the other. Order the salt your process sheet lists.
Which chromium nitrate grade suits catalyst preparation?
Impregnation work normally sets limits on chloride and sulphate so that firing the support leaves chromia behind and little else. Tell us the support, the target chromium loading and the impurity limits written into the method, and the grade can be matched to them.
What is needed for a chromium nitrate price enquiry?
Give the grade, hydrate, assay basis, quantity and delivery location, and note the application if a specification has to be matched. Adding your preferred pack format and documentation needs allows one quotation to cover the whole requirement.
