Myristic acid is quoted for soap, surfactant, cosmetic and oleochemical buyers across Malaysia. Also traded as tetradecanoic acid, C14 fatty acid or tetradecylic acid (CAS 544-63-8, C14H28O2), it is the saturated C14 fraction recovered when palm kernel and coconut oils are split and distilled.
Purity is the first ordering question. Cuts at 92, 95 and 98 per cent nominal C14 all trade, and the difference shows up in lather character, colour and in any ester or metallic soap made downstream. Flakes, pastilles, beads, milled powder and molten deliveries then cover the range of dosing arrangements.
This is the C14 acid only. It is not lauric acid at C12 or palmitic acid at C16, and it is not a myristate ester or a mixed distilled fatty acid cut, all of which are ordered separately. Soap and cleanser makers select it for dense foam, while formulators use it as a structurant and as an intermediate.

Common questions about myristic acid
Is myristic acid the same as tetradecanoic acid?
Yes, the same material under its systematic name, and C14 fatty acid and tetradecylic acid are further variants of it. The open question in any enquiry is therefore not identity but the purity cut, since what ships is a C14 fraction and not a laboratory-pure substance.
What is the difference between myristic acid and palmitic acid?
They differ by two carbons: myristic acid is the C14 acid and palmitic acid the C16, and that changes melting behaviour, lather character and how each performs as an intermediate. They are separate products with separate specifications, so order the chain length you need by name.
Can I use myristic acid where a formulation calls for lauric acid?
Not interchangeably. Lauric acid is the C12 acid and gives faster, lighter foam, while the C14 chain gives a denser and more persistent lather. Substituting one for the other changes both the foam profile and any derivative made from it, so specify the chain length the formulation requires.
Which purity cut should I ask for, 92, 95 or 98 per cent?
Soap and cleanser bases are commonly satisfied by 92 or 95 per cent material. Ester, surfactant and cosmetic work tends to move up to 98 per cent, because the chain distribution of the acid carries into the derivative. If the material has to replace something already approved, send that specification.
Is myristic acid the same thing as isopropyl myristate?
No. Isopropyl myristate is an ester made from this acid and behaves as a light liquid emollient, whereas the acid itself is a waxy solid. If a cosmetic emollient is what the formulation needs, order the ester by name as a separate product.
Which form is easiest to handle?
That depends on the plant. Bagged flakes remain the default where operators weigh and tip by hand, pastilles and beads behave better in hoppers and screw feeders, and milled powder is reserved for dry premixes. Heated deliveries only pay off where the acid goes straight into a hot process.
Does a cosmetic or food requirement need anything extra in the enquiry?
Yes, the standard itself. Quote the monograph, pharmacopoeia entry or customer specification the batch has to answer to, together with what the material is going into, because a technical cut carries no such qualification by default. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.
Why is no price shown on this page?
Because C14 is a traded commodity and a published figure would be stale within weeks. Quotations therefore carry their own validity window. Two buyers asking for different purity cuts, forms or destinations receive genuinely different numbers, which is why the enquiry has to carry those details.
