What is diisononyl phthalate used for?

What is the difference between diisononyl phthalate and DOP?
They are two different phthalate esters. DINP is built on a longer branched C9 alcohol, so it is heavier and less volatile in the compound, while DOP plasticises at a lower cost with more loss over time at temperature. Loading and processing behaviour both shift when one replaces the other, so quote the ester the specification actually calls for.
Is diisononyl phthalate interchangeable with DOTP or DBP?
Treat them as separate materials to be selected on the finished article. DOTP is a terephthalate rather than an orthophthalate ester, and DBP is a much lighter, faster fusing plasticiser used for different reasons. State which ester the compound is formulated around and it is quoted as its own line.
Does DINP satisfy a specification written for a non-phthalate plasticiser?
