Hydrocarbon Resin Supplier in Malaysia

  • Also known as
  • Petroleum Resin

Hydrocarbon resin, also known as petroleum resin, is a low molecular weight thermoplastic resin family used by Malaysian adhesive, rubber, coating and ink formulators. It is polymerised from C5 or C9 hydrocarbon streams and should be selected by grade family rather than treated as one material with a single CAS number.

The main commercial families are C5 aliphatic resin, C9 aromatic resin, C5/C9 copolymer resin and hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin. Buyers normally distinguish grades by softening point, colour, molecular weight, physical form and compatibility with the rest of the formulation.

Hydrocarbon resin is used as a tackifier in hot-melt and pressure-sensitive adhesives, in rubber compounding, road-marking paints, printing inks, paints and coatings, bitumen modification and selected polymer compounds. It is distinct from gum rosin, rosin esters, terpene resin, coumarone-indene resin, polyamide resin, epoxy resin and ion-exchange resin.

Send the required resin family, softening point, colour, molecular weight criteria, application, quantity and delivery location with your enquiry. Availability, packing and documentation are confirmed with the quotation.

Hydrocarbon Resin applications

Common questions about hydrocarbon resin

What is the difference between C5 and C9 hydrocarbon resin?

C5 grades are aliphatic hydrocarbon resins, while C9 grades are aromatic hydrocarbon resins. Their compatibility, colour and formulation behaviour differ, so the required family should be stated in the enquiry.

Is hydrocarbon resin the same as petroleum resin?

Yes. Petroleum resin is a common alternate name for the hydrocarbon resin family produced from C5 or C9 hydrocarbon streams.

Which details are needed to select a hydrocarbon resin grade?

Buyers normally specify the C5, C9, C5/C9 copolymer or hydrogenated family together with softening point, colour, molecular weight and end-use compatibility requirements.

What forms of hydrocarbon resin can be requested?

Commercial hydrocarbon resin is commonly supplied as flakes, pastilles, granules or lumps. State the required form in the enquiry, and packing is confirmed with the quotation.

Is hydrocarbon resin the same as gum rosin?

No. Hydrocarbon resin is a petroleum-derived thermoplastic resin family, while gum rosin and rosin esters are separate natural-resin chemistries that require their own specification.

What information is needed for a hydrocarbon resin quotation?

Send the resin family, softening point, colour, molecular weight criteria, application, quantity and delivery location. Packing, documentation and commercial details are confirmed with the quotation.
