Potassium Acetate Supplier in Malaysia
- Also known as
- Potassium Ethanoate
- Acetic Acid Potassium Salt
- CH3COOK
- C2H3KO2
Potassium acetate reaches Malaysian buyers as two distinct commercial materials: the dry salt and the concentrated aqueous solution. Also written potassium ethanoate, CH3COOK or C2H3KO2 (CAS 127-08-2), it is a white acetate salt that dissolves readily in water and draws moisture strongly from the air.
The dry salt suits batches that are weighed and made up on site, while the solution suits plants that meter a liquid and would rather not fight a deliquescent powder. Moisture pickup is the handling constraint that decides the choice more often than price. State which form the process is written around, because the two are quoted separately.
Industrial demand runs through polyurethane and polyester catalysis, de-icing fluid blending, low-chloride completion and drilling brines, concrete and textile processing, and wet chemical fire-extinguishing agents. Food, pharmaceutical formulation and laboratory buffer work take higher-purity grades of the same salt, identified as E261 where it is used as a food additive.
Send the form, grade, target specification, quantity and delivery location with your enquiry. Availability, packing, documentation and delivery timing are confirmed with the quotation. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.

Potassium Acetate grades and forms
We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.
| Grade | Form | Assay | Typical use | Packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Technical grade potassium acetate | white crystalline solid or powder | — | Catalysis in polyurethane and polyester production, concrete and textile processing, and industrial batches where a dry acetate salt is weighed straight into the mix. | Confirmed with the quotation. |
| Potassium acetate solution | clear aqueous solution | — | Runway and airfield de-icing fluid blending, oil-field completion and drilling fluids, and heat-transfer duties where a ready-diluted salt is easier to meter than a deliquescent solid. | Confirmed with the quotation. |
| Food grade potassium acetate | white crystalline powder or granules | — | Acidity regulation and mild preservation systems in food processing, where the buyer specifies a food-additive grade of the salt carrying the additive code E261. | Confirmed with the quotation. |
| Higher-purity potassium acetate | white crystalline powder | — | Pharmaceutical formulation, dialysis concentrate work and laboratory buffer preparation, where the enquiry names the standard the material has to be written against. | Confirmed with the quotation. |

Potassium Acetate applications
Safety and handling
Keep containers tightly closed in a cool, dry place. The solid takes up water from the air quickly and will cake or liquefy if a pack is left open, so decant only what a batch needs. Keep it clear of strong acids and strong oxidising agents, and follow the safety information issued with the quoted grade.
Common questions about potassium acetate
Is potassium acetate the same as potassium ethanoate?
Yes. Potassium ethanoate is the systematic name for the same salt, and acetic acid potassium salt describes it the way some specification sheets do. E261 is the additive code applied when the material is selected for food use.
Is potassium acetate the same as sodium acetate?
No. They share the acetate ion but carry different cations, so molecular weight, solubility, moisture behaviour and the specification differ. Order sodium acetate by name where a recipe or process calls for the sodium salt.
Is potassium acetate the same as potassium formate?
No. Formate is the salt of formic acid while acetate is the salt of acetic acid, so each is a separate product even though both appear in de-icing and low-chloride brine work. State potassium formate by name if the formate brine is what the process needs.
Should I request the dry salt or the potassium acetate solution?
Take the solution where the plant meters a liquid and wants to avoid handling a deliquescent powder, which is common in de-icing fluid blending and brine preparation. Take the dry salt where a batch is weighed, freight on water is not worth paying for, or the concentration is made up in house.
Why does potassium acetate cake or turn wet in the bag?
The salt is strongly hygroscopic and deliquescent, so it draws moisture from humid air and eventually dissolves in it. Keep packs sealed, store them off the floor in a dry area and open one at a time. Where humidity in the plant cannot be controlled, the solution form removes the problem.
What details should a potassium acetate enquiry include?
Give the form, grade, assay or concentration the process works to, the application, quantity and delivery location. Note any moisture, chloride or heavy-metal limits, the packing you prefer and the documents your quality system expects, so the quotation covers the whole requirement.
