Acetonitrile Supplier in Malaysia

  • Also known as
  • Methyl Cyanide
  • Ethanenitrile
  • MeCN
  • CH3CN

Acetonitrile supplier for analytical laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturers and speciality extraction buyers in Malaysia. Also written as methyl cyanide, ethanenitrile or MeCN (CAS 75-05-8, C2H3N), it is a clear, colourless liquid with an ether-like odour. It is a polar aprotic solvent that mixes with water in any ratio, which is unusual among common organic solvents.

The grade axis runs from technical material for extraction and synthesis duty up to HPLC, gradient and LC-MS grades for instrument work. Water content, UV transparency and gradient baseline behaviour separate those levels, not the label alone. State the method or instrument the solvent feeds so the right level is quoted.

Acetonitrile is the organic solvent behind most reversed-phase HPLC work, and it also serves pharmaceutical and agrochemical synthesis, oligonucleotide chemistry, fatty-acid separation and selected battery electrolyte formulation. It is a nitrile rather than a ketone, so it is not acetone, and the shorthand ACN is used for acrylonitrile too. Spelling the full name on an enquiry removes that ambiguity.

Send the required grade, any water, UV or residue limits, the quantity and the delivery location with your enquiry. Availability, pack format and documentation are confirmed with the quotation. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.

Acetonitrile grades and forms

We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.

GradeFormAssayTypical usePacking
Technical grade acetonitrileclear, colourless liquidPlant-scale extraction, washing and synthesis duty, and speciality separation of fatty acids and related mixtures, where instrument-level UV transparency is not part of the requirement.Tin, pail or drum format is confirmed with the quotation.
Pharmaceutical and synthesis grade acetonitrileclear, colourless liquidActive ingredient and fine-chemical synthesis, peptide and oligonucleotide work, and recrystallisation steps that hold water and residue limits tighter than technical material.Tin, pail or drum format is confirmed with the quotation.
HPLC grade acetonitrileclear, colourless liquidIsocratic reversed-phase mobile phases, sample dilution and routine quality control runs, where UV transparency and low non-volatile residue decide whether a chromatogram is usable.Pack format is confirmed with the quotation; tin and pail options are quoted against the stated volume.
HPLC gradient grade acetonitrileclear, colourless liquidGradient elution and low-wavelength detection, where a flat baseline across the whole gradient programme is the parameter that separates this grade from ordinary HPLC material.Pack format is confirmed with the quotation; tin and pail options are quoted against the stated volume.
LC-MS grade acetonitrileclear, colourless liquidMass-spectrometry coupled work, where metal ions, plasticisers and other adduct-forming impurities are controlled so the spectrum stays clean at low concentrations.Pack format is confirmed with the quotation; tin and pail options are quoted against the stated volume.

How to buy acetonitrile from ChemTrade

Ordering

Send the required grade (technical, synthesis, HPLC, gradient or LC-MS), any water, UV or residue limits your method fixes, the quantity and the delivery location with your enquiry. Naming the instrument or process helps, because a gradient run and a plant extraction are bought at different grade levels.

Delivery

Availability, pack format, documentation, delivery route and timing are confirmed with the quotation for the stated location.

Pricing

Acetonitrile is priced on enquiry with a stated validity period. Grade level, specification, quantity, pack format and delivery location all change the offer, and the grade level is usually the largest single factor in it.

Acetonitrile applications

Safety and handling

Classification
flammable, irritant

Acetonitrile is a volatile flammable liquid whose vapour irritates the eyes and airways. Keep containers closed in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat, ignition sources, strong oxidisers and strong bases, and handle with the ventilation and protective equipment set out in the safety information for the grade quoted. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.

Common questions about acetonitrile

Is acetonitrile the same as acetone?

No. Acetonitrile is a nitrile with the formula CH3CN, while acetone is a ketone, and they differ in polarity, boiling point and chromatographic behaviour. The names look alike and get mistyped on purchase orders, so order whichever one your method needs by name and check the CAS number.

Is acetonitrile the same as methyl cyanide?

Yes. Methyl cyanide, ethanenitrile and the shorthand MeCN all refer to the same substance, CAS 75-05-8. Laboratory documents tend to use the abbreviated forms while purchase specifications spell acetonitrile out in full.

Does ACN mean acetonitrile or acrylonitrile?

Both, depending on who is writing. Laboratories usually mean acetonitrile, while polymer and monomer buyers mean acrylonitrile, which is a different chemical entirely. Write the full name on an enquiry so the wrong material is never quoted against a three-letter abbreviation.

Which acetonitrile grade should I request?

Technical grade suits plant extraction, washing and synthesis duty. HPLC and gradient grades are for instrument work, with gradient grade selected when the baseline has to stay flat at low wavelengths. LC-MS grade adds control of adduct-forming impurities, and synthesis grade covers pharmaceutical routes.

What is the difference between HPLC grade and gradient grade acetonitrile?

Both are purified for chromatography, but gradient grade is tested for how it behaves as the solvent proportion changes during a run, so it is chosen where baseline drift or ghost peaks would spoil a gradient method. Isocratic and routine work is normally satisfied by HPLC grade.

Why does acetonitrile mix so readily with water?

It is a small, strongly polar aprotic molecule, so it is miscible with water in all proportions while still dissolving many organic compounds. That combination is why it works as the organic phase in reversed-phase chromatography and in aqueous extraction systems.

What details are needed for an acetonitrile price enquiry?

Provide the grade, any limits your method fixes for water, UV absorbance or residue, the quantity per shipment and the delivery location. Mention preferred packing and the documentation you need so the quotation covers the whole requirement.
