Aluminium Stearate Supplier in Malaysia
- Also known as
- Aluminum Stearate
- Aluminium Octadecanoate
- Aluminium Salt of Stearic Acid
Aluminium stearate supplier for coating, construction, polymer and grease formulators in Malaysia. Also written aluminum stearate in American spelling, it is the aluminium soap of stearic acid: a white to off-white fine powder that is hydrophobic and insoluble in water.
The family is traded as monostearate, distearate and tristearate, which differ in aluminium content, free fatty acid and how strongly they structure a liquid. Those are types of one material rather than separate products, and fineness or sieve residue is often specified alongside the type.
Coating and ink formulators use it for flatting, anti-settling and body, dry-mix and plaster producers for water repellency in the set material, and compounders as a lubricant, release aid and acid scavenger. Grease manufacture, anti-caking duties, board treatment, cosmetics and pencil production draw on the same chemistry.
Send the stearate type or the function it has to perform, the specification limits, quantity and delivery location. Pack format, documentation, availability and timing follow with the quotation.

Aluminium Stearate grades and forms
We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.
| Grade | Form | Assay | Typical use | Packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminium monostearate | white to off-white fine powder | — | The type reached for when an oil, solvent or ink has to be thickened or gelled, including grease manufacture and gelling systems where a single stearate group per aluminium gives the strongest structuring effect. | Bag packing; the size is confirmed with the quotation. |
| Aluminium distearate | white to off-white fine powder | — | A middle option specified for anti-settling and structure control in paints, putties and printing inks, and as a processing lubricant where the monostearate thickens the system more than the formulation wants. | Bag packing; the size is confirmed with the quotation. |
| Aluminium tristearate | white to off-white fine powder | — | The most hydrophobic and least reactive of the three types, used for water repellency in cement, mortar and gypsum systems, and as a lubricant, release aid and acid scavenger in plastics and rubber compounding. | Bag packing; the size is confirmed with the quotation. |
| Technical grade fine powder | fine sieved powder | — | Graded on fineness and free fatty acid rather than on stearate ratio, for buyers whose specification names a sieve residue or particle size for dry-mix blending, anti-caking or flatting duty. Send the sieve figure the plant works to. | Bag packing; the size is confirmed with the quotation. |
| Cosmetic grade aluminium stearate | fine white powder | — | Thickening, suspending and water-repellent duty in colour cosmetics and pencil-type products. Name the standard the finished formulation has to satisfy so the enquiry can be answered against it. | Bag packing; the size is confirmed with the quotation. |

Specifications
| Parameter | Value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | white to off-white fine powder, hydrophobic, with a faint fatty odour | — |
| Stearate types traded | monostearate, distearate and tristearate, differing in aluminium content and free fatty acid; commercial material is often a mixture | — |
| Solubility in water | insoluble, and the powder resists wetting rather than dispersing | — |
| Free fatty acid | grade dependent, and the figure follows directly from the stearate type, so it is read from the specification for the type quoted | — |
| Ash content | typical value stated per grade; it tracks the aluminium content of the stearate type rather than being a single catalogue figure | — |
| Melting behaviour | grade dependent; the mono, di and tri types soften and melt over different ranges, so the range comes from the specification rather than the family name | — |
| Fineness | sieve residue and particle size distribution graded to the application; state the sieve the process specifies | — |
| Common grade checks | free fatty acid, ash, moisture, fineness and bulk density as the application requires | — |
Aluminium Stearate applications
Safety and handling
Store bags closed in a dry place, off the floor, away from heat and ignition sources. The powder is light and readily airborne, so control dust at the tipping and blending points and read the safety information supplied with the grade quoted.
Common questions about aluminium stearate
What is the difference between aluminium mono, di and tristearate?
They are the same family with a different number of stearate groups per aluminium, which changes aluminium content, free fatty acid and behaviour. The monostearate structures oils and greases most strongly, the tristearate is the most hydrophobic and least reactive, and the distearate sits between them. Commercial material described only as aluminium stearate is often a mixture.
Which type should I ask for if my specification only says aluminium stearate?
Describe the job instead of the type. Water repellency in mortar or gypsum usually points to the tristearate, gelling an oil or making up a grease points to the monostearate, and paint or ink anti-settling work often runs on the distearate. The requirement can then be quoted against a stated type.
Is aluminium stearate the same as stearic acid?
No, they are different products. Stearic acid is the fatty acid feedstock, while this material is the aluminium soap made by neutralising it, which is water insoluble, does not behave as an acid and performs a different job in a formulation.
Is aluminium stearate related to aluminium hydroxide or aluminium powder?
Only in that all three contain aluminium. Those two are separate inorganic products with their own specifications and uses, and neither will substitute for a metal soap. Order this material as the stearate when a lubricant, water repellent or thickener is what the formulation needs.
How does aluminium stearate compare with the other metal soaps?
Each metal gives a different profile. The aluminium soaps are chosen for water repellency in building materials and for thickening oils, while the calcium, zinc and magnesium soaps are separate catalogue products with their own lubrication, stabiliser and anticaking roles. State the metal the specification names rather than swapping between them.
Why is no CAS number shown for aluminium stearate?
Because the mono, di and tristearate each carry their own number and traded powder is frequently a mixture of types. Publishing one number would misstate the others, so the identifier is confirmed against the specific type being quoted.
What details make an aluminium stearate quotation straightforward?
The stearate type or the intended function, any fineness, free fatty acid or ash limits, the quantity and the delivery location. Mention the documentation the receiving site needs so it can be dealt with alongside pack format.
