What is base oil and what is it used for?

Is base oil 150N the same as SN 150?
Yes. 150N and SN 150 are two ways of writing the same solvent neutral viscosity grade, the N standing for neutral. Local enquiries use both forms, so quote whichever appears on your specification and the grade will be read the same way.
What is the difference between Group I, Group II and Group III base oil?
The API groups classify base stock by saturates, sulphur content and viscosity index.
