Calcium Carbide Supplier in Malaysia

  • Also known as
  • Carbide
  • Calcium Acetylide
  • CaC2

Calcium carbide supplier for welding-gas, steelmaking and chemical buyers in Malaysia. Traded simply as carbide and known chemically as calcium acetylide (CAS 75-20-7, CaC2), it is a grey to brown-black crystalline solid that gives off acetylene the moment it meets water. That reaction is the whole reason the material is bought.

Buyers specify it by lump size band and by gas yield in litres of acetylene per kilogram, because the generator dictates both. Coarse graded lump suits fixed welding and cutting plant, smaller sizes suit portable generators and lamps, and crushed fines are injected as a desulphurising reagent. State the band and yield your equipment is rated for.

Two demand centres carry the product: acetylene generation for welding, flame cutting and chemical synthesis, and hot-metal desulphurisation in iron and steel plants. It is also the feedstock behind calcium cyanamide. Calcium carbide is not silicon carbide, which is an abrasive grain, and it is not calcium oxide or calcium carbonate.

Moisture exclusion governs handling, which is why the trade convention is sealed steel drums held in dry, ventilated storage. Tell us the lump grade, the yield your generator is rated for, the tonnage and where it is going. Packing, documents and timing follow in the quotation.

Calcium Carbide grades and forms

We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.

GradeFormAssayTypical usePacking
Graded lump calcium carbidecoarse crystalline lumps in a stated size bandFixed acetylene generators feeding gas welding, flame cutting and brazing shops, where the charging basket and gas draw dictate the lump band bought.Sealed steel drums are the conventional trade format for this material; the pack supplied against the quoted grade is confirmed with the quotation.
Small-size calcium carbidesmaller sized lumps or granulesPortable and low-capacity generators, carbide lamps and small-scale gas work, where a finer charge gives a faster and steadier draw from a small water volume.Sealed steel drums are the conventional trade format for this material; the pack supplied against the quoted grade is confirmed with the quotation.
Desulphurisation finescrushed fines or powderInjected reagent for hot-metal and ladle desulphurisation in iron and steel plants, where reaction surface area matters more than lump integrity.Moisture-excluding packing is stated against the grade offered at quotation stage.
Chemical feedstock calcium carbidelumps or crushed material as specifiedAcetylene for chemical synthesis and the manufacture of calcium cyanamide, bought against a stated yield and impurity limit rather than a welding size band.Moisture-excluding packing is stated against the grade offered at quotation stage.

How to buy calcium carbide from ChemTrade

Ordering

State the lump size band or fines requirement, the gas yield your generator is rated against, the duty it serves (welding gas, desulphurisation or synthesis), the tonnage per shipment and the destination.

Delivery

Packing, documents, the route and how quickly material can move are settled at quotation stage for the destination given.

Pricing

Quotes are issued on enquiry and carry a stated validity window. Carbide pricing moves sharply, so lump grade, tonnage and destination all feed into the figure, and an old indication is worth rechecking before you budget on it.

Calcium Carbide applications

Safety and handling

Keep in a sealed, dry, well-ventilated store and protect from water, damp air and rain, since contact with moisture releases flammable acetylene. Keep away from heat, ignition sources and incompatible chemicals, open containers with care and away from confined spaces, and follow the safety information issued with the grade quoted. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.

Common questions about calcium carbide

Is calcium carbide the same as silicon carbide?

No. Silicon carbide is an abrasive and refractory grain used for grinding, blasting and kiln work, and it does not generate gas. Calcium carbide is the acetylide salt bought to produce acetylene, so order the one you need by name.

Is calcium carbide the same as calcium oxide, quicklime or calcium carbonate?

No. Those are lime and limestone products with no acetylene chemistry. Calcium carbide is a different material, although spent carbide leaves a lime residue after it has reacted, which is where some of the confusion comes from.

How do I choose the lump size for an acetylene generator?

Follow the generator manufacturer's rating. Larger fixed plant is usually charged with coarse graded lump, while portable units and lamps take smaller sizes because they carry less water and need a steadier gas draw. Quote the size band your equipment is built around.

What gas yield does calcium carbide give?

Yield is quoted in litres of acetylene per kilogram and is grade dependent, so a figure is stated against the material actually offered rather than published as a fixed number. Tell us the yield your process is designed for and it will be addressed in the quotation.

Why does calcium carbide have to be kept dry?

Because it reacts with water and even damp air to release flammable acetylene, which is exactly the property the product is bought for. That is why the trade uses sealed steel drums, dry ventilated storage and careful opening procedures.

Which grade suits hot-metal desulphurisation rather than gas generation?

Steel plants normally take crushed fines, because injection depends on reaction surface area and a controlled particle size, not on lump integrity. State the injection system, the sulphur reduction targeted and whether the reagent is used alone or in a blend.

What details are needed for a calcium carbide price enquiry?

The lump grade or fines requirement, the yield expected, what the material feeds, tonnage per shipment and the destination. Adding any document requirements up front saves a round trip on the quotation.
