Store away from ammonia, cyanides, thiosulphate and strong reducing agents, which dissolve or reduce it. Common questions about silver chloride
Is silver chloride the same as silver nitrate?
No. Silver chloride is the insoluble halide that barely dissolves in water, while silver nitrate is a freely soluble silver salt with entirely different handling and uses. If a plating bath, titration or preparation calls for the soluble salt, order silver nitrate by name.
What purity grades of silver chloride do buyers request?
Purity is normally stated as silver chloride content, commonly 99.9% for technical and reagent work and 99.99% or higher for electrode and sensor manufacture. State the grade and any trace metal limits with the enquiry so the material can be matched to the specification.
Why does silver chloride turn grey or purple in storage?
