Store in tightly closed opaque or amber containers in a cool, dark, dry place, away from organics, reducing agents, ammonia and acids. Light decomposes silver nitrate and contact with organic material creates a fire risk. It causes severe skin and eye burns and stains skin black on contact, and is very toxic to aquatic life, so rinse water must not go to drain untreated.
