Should I use liquid or powder sodium aluminate?
Liquid suits continuous dosing because it can be metered straight into a plant, which is why most water treatment sites use it. Powder and granule suit batch make-up, longer storage and situations where freighting water is not economic. Both are sodium aluminate; the choice follows your dosing arrangement.
Is sodium aluminate the same as aluminium sulphate or PAC?
No, these are different products with different chemistry, and each is ordered by name. Aluminium sulphate and poly aluminium chloride are acidic aluminium salts that consume alkalinity when dosed. Sodium aluminate is alkaline and raises alkalinity while supplying aluminium, which is why it is often used on soft or low-alkalinity water.
How does sodium aluminate differ from aluminium hydroxide or aluminium oxide?
Aluminium hydroxide and aluminium oxide are separate products handled on their own pages, mainly used as fillers, flame retardants, abrasives and refractory material. Sodium aluminate is a water-soluble sodium salt of aluminate, supplied as a solution or an anhydrous solid for dosing and synthesis rather than as an insoluble filler.
