Triacetin Supplier in Malaysia
- Also known as
- Glycerol Triacetate
- Glyceryl Triacetate
- Triacetylglycerol
- 1,2,3-Triacetoxypropane
Triacetin supplier in Malaysia for plastics, food, pharmaceutical, personal-care and coatings buyers. Triacetin is the triester of glycerol with acetic acid, also called glycerol triacetate, glyceryl triacetate or GTA, and it carries the food-additive designation E1518. It is a clear colourless to pale yellow oily liquid with a faint fatty odour, slightly soluble in water and miscible with alcohols.
The commercial grade split is technical, food, pharmaceutical and high-purity material for cellulose acetate work. All of them are liquid, so grade rather than form is the choice a buyer makes. Send the assay, colour, acidity, moisture and documentation requirements that apply.
The largest industrial use of triacetin is as a cellulose acetate plasticiser, notably in filter-tow bonding. Beyond that it works as a flavour and fragrance carrier and fixative, a food humectant and solvent, a pharmaceutical excipient and film-coating plasticiser, a cosmetic solvent, a solvent for gums and resins, and a fuel or biodiesel additive.
Send the required grade, target specification, application, quantity and delivery location with your enquiry. Availability, packing, documentation and delivery timing are confirmed with the quotation.

Triacetin grades and forms
We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.
| Grade | Form | Assay | Typical use | Packing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Technical-grade triacetin | clear colourless to pale yellow oily liquid | technical or industrial specification | Plasticiser and solvent duty in coatings, inks, gums and resins, and general industrial formulation where a technical specification is suitable. | Confirm the required pack format with the quotation. |
| Food-grade triacetin | clear colourless oily liquid | food specification | Humectant, solvent and carrier duty in food and flavour formulation, sold against the food-additive designation E1518. Confirm the required specification and documentation with the enquiry. | Confirm the required pack format with the quotation. |
| Pharmaceutical-grade triacetin | clear colourless oily liquid | pharmacopoeial specification on request | Excipient, plasticiser and film-coating use in pharmaceutical manufacturing. State the monograph, specification and documentation required with the enquiry. | Confirm the required pack format with the quotation. |
| High-purity triacetin for cellulose acetate | clear colourless oily liquid | high-purity specification | Plasticiser for cellulose acetate, including filter-tow bonding, where colour, acidity and moisture limits are tighter than a general technical cut. | Confirm the required pack format with the quotation. |

Triacetin applications
Safety and handling
Keep containers closed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from heat, ignition sources and strong oxidisers, and away from strong odours where a food or flavour grade is stored. Handle with the safety information supplied for the quoted grade. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.
Common questions about triacetin
Is triacetin the same as glycerine?
No. Triacetin is the triacetate ester of glycerol, an oily ester liquid, while glycerine is the parent polyol. Acetic acid is the other starting material and is a different product again. Order glycerine or acetic acid by name when the parent material is what the process needs.
Are glycerol triacetate and triacetin two names for one product?
Yes, they are the same material. Glycerol triacetate is the systematic name, glyceryl triacetate and triacetylglycerol are common variants, GTA is the usual abbreviation, and E1518 is the food-additive designation. Any of these terms can be used in an enquiry.
Which triacetin grade should a buyer request?
Technical grade covers coatings, inks, gums, resins and general industrial plasticiser duty. Food grade is specified for food, beverage and flavour work, pharmaceutical grade for excipient and film-coating use, and high-purity material for cellulose acetate applications. Send the application and any existing purchasing specification with the enquiry.
What is triacetin used for as a plasticiser?
Its largest use is plasticising cellulose acetate, most visibly in cigarette filter-tow bonding, where it softens and binds the tow. It also plasticises film coatings, inks and selected adhesive and polymer systems that need a high-boiling, low-volatility ester.
Can triacetin be supplied against a food or pharmacopoeial specification?
Send the specification you need to meet and it can be addressed with the quotation. Food and pharmaceutical grades are ordinary commercial grades of triacetin, but the applicable assay, limits and documentation should be stated in the enquiry rather than assumed. Supply is subject to applicable requirements.
What details are needed for a triacetin price enquiry?
Provide the grade, application, target specification, quantity and delivery location. Mention any preferred pack format, documentation needs and the timing you are working to, so the quotation covers the whole requirement.
