Safety and handling
Store dry, covered and closed so the powder stays free-flowing and free of contamination. Handling is dusty, so control airborne dust at transfer and dosing points and use eye protection and a suitable mask. Like any mined mineral it carries a respirable dust exposure, and calcined grades differ from natural ones, so work to the safety data sheet for the grade quoted.

Is diatomite the same as diatomaceous earth?
Yes. Diatomite and kieselguhr name the same mined amorphous silica material, and buyers working from older specifications often still write kieselguhr. Filtration practice shortens it to DE. Whichever term the enquiry uses, state the grade or the permeability so it is unambiguous.
What is the difference between natural, calcined and flux-calcined grades?
Heat treatment. Natural material is dried and milled only, giving the tightest cake and the slowest flow.
