Sodium Metasilicate Supplier in Malaysia

  • Also known as
  • Sodium Meta Silicate
  • Metasilicate
  • Disodium Metasilicate
  • Na2SiO3

ChemTrade supplies sodium metasilicate to detergent blenders, metal finishers and industrial cleaning formulators across Malaysia. Commercial forms include a dry white solid in 25 kg bags, in both the anhydrous and the pentahydrate form.

This is not the liquid silicate, and the distinction is worth making before you order. Sodium silicate is a pumpable solution bought by density and supplied in drums and IBC tanks. Metasilicate is the crystalline solid, and it is what a powder blend or a dry charged bath calls for.

Anhydrous carries no water of crystallisation, so it is the more concentrated of the two and the one dry formulations use. Pentahydrate dissolves more readily and raises less dust, which is why it suits baths made up on site. Belgian, Dutch and Chinese origin material is available.

It is a strong alkali, corrosive to skin and eyes, and classified for transport as a class 8 corrosive. Buyers moving across from caustic soda should know it is milder at the same dose but still needs gloves, goggles and dust control.

Sodium Metasilicate grades and forms

We supply several forms to suit different formulating and dosing setups. If you need a size that is not listed, ask us.

GradeFormAssayTypical usePacking
Sodium metasilicate anhydrouswhite granules or powderThe concentrated form, carrying no water of crystallisation, so a tonne delivers more alkali and more silica than a tonne of the hydrate. Chosen for powder detergent and dry blended cleaner formulations where every percent of the bag has to do work. It takes up atmospheric moisture faster, so it wants a dry store and closed bags.
Sodium metasilicate pentahydratewhite crystalline solidFive molecules of water built into the crystal, which makes it dissolve more readily and handle with less dust than the anhydrous. The usual choice for cleaning and degreasing baths made up on site, and the form most of what we move is bought as. Available from Belgian, Dutch and Chinese origin.

How to buy sodium metasilicate from ChemTrade

Ordering

Tell us the form, anhydrous or pentahydrate, and the quantity with your delivery point, and we will quote within two business days. If you are working to a specification or have the label off what you buy now, send that and we will work from it.

Delivery

Across Peninsular Malaysia, and to East Malaysia by sea freight. We can arrange transport or release the goods to your own forwarder. Timing is confirmed with the quote, once stock and haulage have been checked.

Pricing

Priced by the tonne, and the two forms are not interchangeable on price because the anhydrous carries no water. Send the form, the quantity and the delivery point and we will come back with a current price and how long it holds.

Safety and handling

Classification
corrosive, causes severe skin burns and eye damage
UN number
3253
Hazard class
8

Store sealed in a dry place. Metasilicate is hygroscopic and takes up both moisture and carbon dioxide from the air, so an open bag cakes and loses strength. Keep it away from acids, which will neutralise it violently and drop silica gel out of solution. Treat it as a corrosive alkali rather than a cleaning powder: it burns skin and eyes on contact and the dust irritates the airway, so gloves, goggles and dust control are the minimum, and any eye splash needs irrigating at once.

Common questions about sodium metasilicate

What is the difference between sodium silicate and sodium metasilicate?

For buying purposes they are two different products. Sodium silicate is supplied as a liquid solution in pails, drums and IBC tanks and is bought by density; metasilicate is a dry white solid in 25 kg bags, and the two come from different sources. Substituting one for the other changes the formulation, because you would be adding water where the recipe assumed none, and changing both the alkalinity and the silica you are dosing. Order the one your specification names.

Should I order anhydrous or pentahydrate?

Pentahydrate for anything mixed into water on site, anhydrous for a dry blend. The pentahydrate dissolves faster and dusts less, while the anhydrous carries no water so a tonne of it delivers more alkali, which matters when the formulation is a powder and cannot afford the moisture. If you are matching an existing supply, send us the form you buy now.

Can it replace caustic soda in a cleaning formulation?

Sometimes, and it is a common reason buyers switch. Metasilicate is alkaline but milder than caustic soda at the same dose, and the silicate it leaves behind protects aluminium and painted surfaces that caustic would attack. It is still a corrosive alkali, so it does not remove the need for gloves and goggles, and it will not match caustic on heavy fat removal.

What packing does it come in?

25 kg bags, which is the size both forms are supplied in. We buy from several producers, so if your handling suits a different size or a palletised load made up a particular way, ask and we will check what can be arranged rather than assume the standard bag suits you.

Is it classified for transport?

Yes. Solid metasilicate ships as a class 8 corrosive under UN 3253, packing group III, which is a real difference from the liquid silicate solutions and affects how a consignment is documented and handled. The producer's safety data sheet for the batch being quoted is the reference, and we will send it with the quotation.

How is it priced?

By the tonne on enquiry. Anhydrous and pentahydrate price differently because a tonne of each carries a different amount of alkali, so tell us which form and how much, along with the delivery point. Prices move, so we quote a current figure with a stated validity period.
