Organoclay Supplier Malaysia

  • Also known as
  • Organophilic Clay
  • Organobentonite
  • Organically Modified Bentonite
  • Quaternary Ammonium Bentonite

Organoclay is an organically modified smectite clay used as a rheology and suspension additive in organic media. Buyers also specify it as organophilic clay, organobentonite or organically modified bentonite when seeking a supplier in Malaysia for coatings, oilfield fluids and industrial formulations.

Grades are matched to low-, medium- or high-polarity carrier systems and may be conventional, self-activating, hectorite-based or designed for oilfield use. The correct choice depends on solvent or oil chemistry, activation route, dispersion process and the required gel or anti-settling behaviour.

Organoclay is used for anti-sag and anti-settling control in coatings, viscosity and suspension in drilling fluids, thickening in greases and mastics, and rheology in inks, adhesives and polymer compounds. It is not untreated bentonite, the quaternary ammonium treating agent, natural hectorite, fumed silica or a castor-oil rheology modifier.

Send the carrier system, polarity, activation preference, application, target rheology, quantity and delivery location with your enquiry. Availability, packing and documentation are confirmed with the quotation for the selected organoclay grade.

Common questions about Organoclay

How do I select an organoclay grade?

Start with the carrier system, its polarity and the required rheology. Also state whether the process can use a polar activator or needs a self-activating grade, as these details affect dispersion and gel development.

Is organoclay the same as untreated bentonite?

No. Organoclay is a surface-treated, organophilic clay intended to disperse and develop structure in organic media, while untreated bentonite is a different material commonly associated with water swelling.

Do all organoclay grades need a polar activator?

No. Conventional grades may require a suitable activation step, while self-activating or easy-dispersing grades are designed for different incorporation methods. Confirm the formulation process when requesting a grade.

Can organoclay be specified for drilling fluids and coatings on the same basis?

The underlying material class is related, but grade selection differs by carrier, polarity, activation and performance target. State whether the enquiry is for an oilfield fluid, coating, grease, ink, adhesive or another formulation.

What details are required for an organoclay quotation?

Provide the carrier or solvent system, application, activation method, target rheology, quantity and delivery location. Packing and document availability are confirmed with the quotation.
